Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum
Interested in learning about what built Marquette County? The Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum is the perfect destination for you. This unique attraction allows you to take a step back in time and explore artifacts and informational displays from the mines. You can check out headgear and other safety equipment from both past and present, visit a working blacksmith forge where you can purchase handcrafted items from a local craftsman or peruse the museum gift shop.
The museum also offers the opportunity to go in an underground access shaft and see all of the equipment passing through into the working mines. Tours of the museum are available and recommended and last approximately an hour. The museum is open from mid-May to mid-September, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 am to 4 pm. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.
While you're visiting the museum, don't miss the chance to explore other historical attractions such as the Iron Industry Museum, Iron Ore Heritage Trail, Marquette Maritime Museum, and the Marquette Regional History Center.
